The Just Talk poetry competition returns this spring, following the success of the last competition in 2022, with the participation of over 21 schools across Hertfordshire. The creativity and talent displayed by young people was truly inspiring.

Creative and emotional outlets are essential to maintain a healthy mind. That’s why young people are encouraged to unleash their imaginations and share their voices through writing. There are no restrictions on style or content, explore the theme below and let the imagination flow!

Competition Details:

  • Open to: All Hertfordshire KS3, KS4 and KS5 aged students
  • Competition Dates: Entries to be submitted from Monday 11th March to Thursday 28th March 2024
  • Theme: The Power of Small
    • Following the recent Just Talk campaign, The Power of Small Changes, young people are encouraged to interpret the theme in any way they find meaningful.

How to Enter:

Schools will shortlist an entry from KS3 and an entry from KS4/KS5.

If you're aged 11-18 and not attending school, you can still participate! Please send your poem directly to justtalk@hertfordshire.gov.uk for entry into the competition.

All submissions must be made to justtalk@hertfordshire.gov.uk by Thursday 28th March 2024.

The poems will then be reviewed by a panel of Just Talk partner representatives who will select the winners and runners-up.

Why Participate:

  • Discover healthy emotional outlets: An opportunity for young people to express themselves through poetry.
  • Community Engagement: Join a community of young people through creative expression.
  • Recognition: A booklet of finalists will be available on the Just Talk website once the competition has closed.
  • Prizes: Winners will receive £50 Amazon vouchers and each winning school will be awarded a trophy to keep for the next year!

We look forward to receiving the creative and imaginative entries from young people across Hertfordshire!
